A crime scene has been established after remains – believed to be human – were found in bushland north of Taree this morning (Thursday December 27).

A crew from the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) made the discovery at 6.10am on Yarratt Road, after they had put out a small fire in the Yarratt State Forest.
Officers from Manning-Great Lakes Police District are on the scene and have initiated an investigation.
The remains are believed to be those of an adult.
A post mortem examination will be conducted to confirm identity and cause of death.
