Each year, members would purchase a gift to the value of $5 to swap amongst themselves during the festive season.
In 2018, they’ve made an exception.
After reading a story in the Manning River Times about Orange Sky Laundry’s call out for socks and underwear, group member Joan Forrester was inspired to help out.
“We normally give each other gifts at Christmas time but we thought this year we could use that money to help Orange Sky Laundry instead,” Joan said.
Taking a couple of weeks to organise, Joan said the rest of group didn’t hesitate to break their Christmas tradition.
“They were all thrilled to do it- we decided to not buy just one pack (of socks and undies) but two,” Joan said.
Joan has always loved the charity’s work.
“I first heard about Orange Sky Laundry at a craft day in Port Macquarie and I saw it in Sydney,” Joan explained.
Joan added the group is pleased all donations to the appeal will distributed locally.
The Orange Sky Laundry appeal continues throughout December.
Donations can still be made until Monday, December 17 before they are distributed throughout the community.
