Short a few players, and up against a full compliment of keen coastal kids, Wingham were always going to struggle but only just came up short in a game that beat all expectations.
Wingham won the toss and elected to bowl with just eight in the field.
Great Lakes took full effect, and it took some nice work from Clancy Johnston and Blake Thompson to force a runout and have the home side think if they could truly score enough runs against our side.
Wickets to Cooper Staff and Oliver Irvine provided further joy, but Great Lakes managed to reach 3-106 off their allotted 20 overs which was quite a good total.
Wingham came out firing courtesy of two majors from Blake Thompson, but when he departed for 18 off just 10 balls with the score on 25 the game was evenly balanced.
Nathan Smith came to join Cooper Staff to push the score to 63 before Cooper had to retire on 16 after facing his allotted 25 balls and Nathan was out for a well complied 26 off 17 balls including three fours.
Tom Martin, Clancy and Calum McKinnon then all departed pursuing quick runs leaving Dylan Mitchell and Oliver Irvine as the last regulars to get us over the line, but Oliver unfortunately could not hang around when the score was on 69 which allowed Cooper to come back in as all the other wickets had fallen.
Cooper managed to reach 32 hitting two boundaries off the last over, but simply there were too many fielders and Wingham fell just short on 92.
Nathan took two good catches but Wingham simply had too few players.
