The amendment is proposed to provide clarity between the name of the address locality and the national park. The address locality (suburb) is named after the national park but the respective boundaries do not align.
The proposal will not impact the Crowdy Bay National Park boundary or name.
Chair of the Geographical Names Board, Narelle Underwood, said the board is encouraging community comment before it considers adopting the proposal.
“An important element of determining place names and boundaries is to reflect local use,” she said.
Copies of map GNB5949-1-A showing the proposal can be viewed at:
- MidCoast Council Administration Office, 2 Pulteney Street, Taree
- Harrington Library, Caledonia Street, Harrington
- Sea Acres Rainforest Centre, 159 Pacific Drive, Port Macquarie
The proposal can also be viewed and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board’s website at www.gnb.nsw.gov.au
Email submissions can be lodged with the Secretary, Geographical Names Board
ss-GNB@finance.nsw.gov.au
Otherwise people can write to the Secretary, Geographical Names Board, 346 Panorama Ave, Bathurst, NSW 2795.
The closing date for submissions is Saturday, November 24, 2018.
