Pearl celebrated her 100th birthday on Thursday, October 11 at Storm Village with family and friends.
Pearl is the eldest child of the late John and Ruby Minett of Central Lansdowne.
She grew up on the family dairy farm with her brothers Vic and Reg and attended Central Lansdowne Public School (Roundback).
She has spent most of her life in Chatham and married Bill Haigh in 1963.
Sewing, crochet and knitting have been a big part of Pearl’s life.
She worked from home as a seamstress for much of her life and was sought after by many to have their wedding dresses made by Pearl’s expert hand. One of her wedding dresses was worn in England.
Pearl enjoyed gardening and still enjoys tending a small number of pot plants that moved to Storm Village with her. She also enjoys a game of euchre with her fellow residents.
When asked her secret for a long life, a considered response was given - “I don’t have any secret, I’ve spent a long time looking after others.”
