The public transport service began at the start of term four, Monday, October 15.
Local MP, Stephen Bromhead said he was pleased to have secured the improved school bus route for the growing community of Pacific Palms.
“I’m passionate about improving services in our local community and by doing that with public transport here our kids will get better access to schools,” Mr Bromhead said.
“A number of students wanted to attend Taree Christian College and St Clare’s High in Taree from the Pacific Palms area but they were unable to, due to a lack of services able to get them to Forster in time to meet up with the current Forster-Taree bus service.
“I’ve listened to my local community and delivered a simple solution so they can.
“I spoke with principals of the schools, they have 23 students who could use this service now and they expect more will come from surrounding areas as a result of the change.”
The service will begin at the corner of The Lakes Way and Macwood Road in Smiths Lake then travel via The Lakes Way to Forster, stopping at the intersections of Coomba Road and The Lakes Way.
The service will continue along The Lakes Way to Boomerang Drive, taking in Bluey’s Beach and Boomerang Beach, returning to The Lakes Way via Lakeside Crescent.
It will also stop in at the Green Point community before proceeding into Forster where students can transfer to the Forster-Taree bus service and continue on to Taree Christian College and St Clare’s High School.
The extension will add around 30 kilometres to the journey, which will start earlier in the morning to ensure the service links up with the current Forster-Taree bus service.
