Saturday was the second day of our annual Springtime Tournament, this time a mixed and men’s four-ball aggregate Stableford. The men’s event, for the Coleman Cup, is one of a small number of major open events held by the club and on this occasion sponsored by Club Taree and Hydrahose.

The winners of the cup for 2018 were Graham Gibson and Noel Brown who scored 69 points.
In second place were Ross Townsend and Grant Melham (67) with Chris Windsor and Kel Thomson (66) third.
The scratch win went to Ian Hoppe and Craig Allport who scored 48 points “off the stick”.
The best individual men’s score went to Scott Jacklin (41) with Jim Warren (37) next.
In the mixed event, Donna Warren and Jim Warren took top honours with 72 points, Maria Pitman and Bailey Pitman (69) were second and Jo Stinson and Michael Stinson (66) came in third.
The scratch win in the mixed went to Christine George and Adrian Panuccio scoring 36 points.
Maria Pitman (36) had the best individual women’s score.
The nearest to the pins was won by Kodee Gardner at the first, Kodee Gardner, Chris Martin and Gary Bridge at the fourth, Christine George, Steve Nye and Michael Stinson at the 12th, Jan Surtees, visitor K Isherwood and Jim Warren at the 14th and Christine George, David Reed and Gary Harrison 16th.
The straight drives at the 18th hole were won by Merle Wright and Nick Timmins.
Pink Ribbon Day
Last Wednesday, the course was covered in pink for the women’s committee’s Pink Ribbon Day- a four-person medley team events sponsored by Wayne Dodd our club professional with Club Taree weighing in with a substantial monetary contribution for the Cancer Council on top of all the other funds raised based on donations from dozens of firms and individuals throughout Taree.
Every player had pink of some hue represented in their attire with Rudy Brinkman’s tutu and shocking pink golf shoes stealing the show … well, sort of.
The winning team with 89 points was Jan Surtees, John Surtees, Jacki Robson and Paul Dalton, in second place on a count back were Linda Sinclair, Steve Ison, Jo Stinson and Rob Moore (88) and in third place Cath Andrews, John Andrews, Annette Ward and Tanya Bridge also on 88.
Midweek stableford
The Taree veteran golfers played a Stableford over the full course with Ian Vernon having another big win with 43 points. He was followed by Noel Brown (42) second and Ken Robinson (40) third. Last Tuesday, the medley Stableford was won by Rudy Brinkman with 39 points.
Thursday’s medley Stableford was won by Todd Curtis who scored 41 points in heavy conditions.
Mal Moore had 39 points for second place and Chris Martin (36) needed a count back for third spot. The four-ball was won on 46 points and a count back by Shaun McCarthy and Rob Gyde.
Coming up at the club
Next weekend for men is the October monthly medal sponsored by Classic Design Jewellers and an individual Stableford for women golfers.
The following week there is an individual Stableford for men and a stroke round for seasonal trophies for women.
