Mia was born with congenital femoral deficiency (CFD), leaving her with a severely underdeveloped left leg and no hip. She has been wearing prosthetics since she was nine months old.
Mia’s parents are working toward getting Mia to the USA for a complicated surgery called the Paley Modified Brown Rotationplasty, a complicated 12 hour surgery that will create a functioning hip and rotate her leg 180 degrees so that her foot is facing backwards and the ankle then acts like a knee joint.
The cost of the surgery itself runs close to $350,000 AUD, and additional funds will be needed for the nine to 10 week stay in the US.
To help raise the much needed funds Chris has organised a Beach to Bush charity motorcycle ride. The ride leaves Port Macquarie at 9.30am on October 4 and ends at Wagga Wagga on October 7.
Local motorcycle clubs and individual riders are invited to join the ride for a donation of $20 a day, or all four days for $60.
“Riders can meet us at our overnight stays along the way for a meal or a drink,” Chris said.
The ride will be stopping off in Wingham at 11am and having morning tea at Bent on Food.
