The Lower Manning Uniting Church opened in the op shop at the end of September last year.
Not only do they sell donated clothes and household goods to raise money for ministery and missions, but they have reached out to help the wider community in other ways.
“The community has been very generous with donations so we’ve been able to become a vehicle to distribute goods and chattels for other purposes,” op shop co-ordinator Elaine Windred said.
As they have “an overload of clothes”, according to , they are able to provide clothing to the Mid North Coast Prison Ministry. They have also previously packed up jackets and pullovers to be given to homeless people in Taree, and have donated kitchen items to the Taree Women’s Refuge.
More locally, they have established a bookshelf at Coopernook Hotel for travellers to take or swap books.
To celebrate their first year of business, and to thank the group of eight volunteers and various other helpers, the op shop is holding an open day and sausage sizzle on Wednesday, September 26 at Paton Hall.
“We’d like anybody to to and share our joy,” Elaine said.
The Pop Up Op Shop is open Wednesdays and Thursdays, and the first and second Saturdays of every month, from 9am to 2pm at Coopernook Uniting Church’s Paton Hall in Petrie Street, Coopernook.
