“The Taree Business Chamber is grateful there has been a decision to allow us to move forward.
“There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic instead of wanting to tear the place down.
“We’ve got our fingers crossed that they can make something that we can all be proud of,” Mr Stevens said.
Mr Stevens said more community consultation was needed in the process and the chamber would have been only too happy to help.
He said the chamber considered a forum option like last Friday’s at Club Taree, that was facilitated by Destination North Coast NSW.
“There could have been a Facebook Live option where people could’ve had eyes on the meeting and not actually be there,” Mr Stevens said.
“It needed to be more than just a council meeting.”
Mr Stevens highlighted the public backlash regarding the issue and hoped history won’t repeat itself.
“I hope council can work differently with how they communicate and learn from it,” Mr Stevens said.
