Re-elected president, Dennis Smith thanked the committee from last year but particularly those from the previous year who helped in their transition.
Dave Abbott was re-elected as vice president and Joe Taylor the secretarial role, while Shaun Dawson steps up to be the new treasurer filling the big boot left by Louise Smith.
With the new Manning cricket junior season starting October 13, the committee encourages those interested in playing in the under 10, under 12, under 14 or under 16 sides to start soaking their whites and contact the club via their Facebook page, or give the registrar Sarah Taylor a ring on 0423 581184.
A muster day will be held at Central Park, near the log, on Saturday, September 22 from 11am to 1pm.
The club is now looking for coaches and would like to invite anybody wishing to nominate to contact the club via the above channels as well.
The club has invested heavily in new training equipment and, with new shirts and a recruitment drive through the local primary schools, early contact is vital to ensure a place in these sides.
The new junior formats which were brought in last year will again be played this season, with shorter playing times and modified rules for the younger age groups.
“These were a lot of fun last year and have really changed the way junior cricket is now played,” Dennis said
“I’d encourage anyone interested to have a go”.
Dennis also said the club especially would like to encourage more girls to play cricket. Being allowed to play two years down allows for at least one all-girls side to play in the under 10s competition and compete against the boys.
With all the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) going on it would be good to see these opportunities being developed in our local area.
Cricket season is nearly here – get ready for it!
