Cr Keegan had been invited to address the issue of possible foreshore redevelopment at Old Bar.
After a few of the usual meeting matters were addressed, normal meeting procedures were suspended to allow the meeting to hear from Cr Keegan regarding the possibility of foreshore redevelopment at Old Bar.
The issue was introduced by vice president, Carole Isaacs and Kirby Byrne.
A hand drawn "artist's impression" of what redevelopment could include was circulated. No money has been allocated by council for any parks in Old Bar.
Cr Keegan addressed the meeting and advised that Norfolk Hibiscus was present at the beach area. This is a noxious and dangerous weed.
Council staff have been advised, they have investigated and it will be removed promptly.
The amenities block at the beach is the worst in the whole council area and is to be replaced before the summer of 2019.
Old Bar Public School is now well above original capacity. Others present agreed with this, stating the school is suffering leakage of students to other schools because of perceived overcrowding.
The surf club building is suffering concrete cancer and replacement is well beyond the financial means of the committee.
Another matter disclosed at the meeting was that all except two bus shelters have now been constructed with the assistance of MidCoast Council. There has been considerable protest from Pacific Parade residents and the newly laid concrete slab there has now received oil damage as a protester's vehicle has been placed on it for some time.
MidCoast Council staff are continuing negotiations to resolve this issue. Having secured the funds and ordered the constructions, the OBMP BCA has little further role in the matter.
Craft at Old Bar
The craft group members are thinking of Christmas. The cards we make at our next meeting, Wednesday, August 29 for Combat Cards will arrive at their overseas destination in time for those serving our country to be able to send them back to their loved ones.
Ever imagined what it would be like to be in our navy, army or air force, posted a long way from home and unable to even buy a Christmas card for your family and friends?
Combat Cards is an Australian organisation which collects only handmade cards and distributes them to our servicemen and women in that situation. Craft at Old Bar is very happy to support this need.
The group’s prime concern will be for Christmas cards, but thank-you cards are also very much in demand.
Bring coloured cardstock (including red, green, cream or white) and ideas for Christmas cards, embellishments, but no glitter or shiny stickers or borders.
