Jeans for Genes Day is a nationwide campaign that aims to raise awareness and funds for Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI).
Manning residents had the opportunity to donate to the cause and purchase merchandise on Friday, August 3 as genetic counsellor Bruce Hopper was joined by Brenda Jackson and Heather Bramble to hold a stall at Taree Central.
Mr Hopper said every donation is crucial to help fund research into genetic diseases in children.
“We’re doing a promotion for Children’s Medical Research Institute, trying to raise funds to help research in regards to children’s birth problems,” Mr Hopper said
Mr Hopper has been associated with the cause locally for two decades.
He added that tote bags were a good purchase this year along with pens and commemorative badges.
A raffle was held for a gift basket donated by Taree North Craft group.
CMRI’s Brenda Jackson said she’s proudly been associated with the cause since its inception.
Taree West Public School also held their own fundraiser, with staff and students putting on their best denim jeans for a gold coin donation.
In its 25th year, CMRI is determined to raise $25 million nationwide to build a new research centre.
