Clarke has been Taree’s most consistent player. He’s one of the more experienced members of what is essentially a young side.
“Will doesn’t talk that much on the field, but his actions speak volumes,’’ Taree captain-coach Matt Everitt. said
“He’s done a great job for us this year.’’
The Bulls will meet Wingham tomorrow in the annual Kristylea Bridge Cup match at the Jack Neal Oval.
It’s the longest of shots, but the Bulls can still secure fifth place on the ladder in the last fortnight of the competition-proper.
To do so Taree would have to beat Wingham tomorrow and then upset minor premiers Port City at Port Macquarie in the last round. The Bulls would also require Wingham to defeat Port Macquarie next weekend at the Wingham Sporting Complex.
“It’s a slim chance but it’s still a chance,’’ Everitt said optimistically.
The Bulls at least carry winning form into the match after thrashing Forster-Tuncurry 54-14 last weekend.
Everitt played on three minutes of the game before a wrist injury forced him off the field.
Everitt isn’t sure if he’ll be right for tomorrow and will probably delay the decision until tonight. If he’s out he’s confident Clarke and Kyle Currey will handle the added responsibility.
Prop Josh Northam returns tomorrow and he is expected to come straight into the starting 13, replacing the unavailable Ethan Currey.
As reported on Wednesday the game will be Taree City’s annual fund raiser for Manning Valley Can Assist. Taree City will be defending the cup for the first time after last year’s 30-22 win. The Bulls will wear a special strip for tomorrow’s encounter, as has been the case in other seasons.
Wingham doesn't field an under 18 side so the club’s first grade games have been kicking off at 2.30, however, it will be the traditional 3pm start tomorrow. An auction of sporting memorabilia and other goods will be held at the Taree Leagues and Sport Club tomorrow from 6.30, with proceeds going to Manning Valley Can Assist.
