Her luscious long locks, grown with care and dedication, have so far remained untouched over her short four years.
But after Izzy learned about the thousands of children around the country who have lost their hair as a result of medical conditions, she made a brave decision well beyond her years.
“Izzy saw an ad on TV and when she noticed that one of the kids didn’t have hair she asked why,” Izzy’s father, Daniel Gaul explained.
“Our eldest daughter explained to her that it was because of sickness, and Izzy’s reply was, “Can I give them some of my hair so they can have long Rapunzel hair again like I have?” My wife and I were blown away by this response.
“She didn’t forget about it, and kept asking to donate her hair, so we looked into it.”
Izzy’s parents found Variety, the children's charity, Hair with Heart, and helped Izzy sign up to donate 40cm of her hair to be made into a wig for another child who has lost their hair due to a medical condition.
Wigs cost families up to $6000, lasting one to two years, meaning families can spend tens of thousands of dollars on the purchase of wigs throughout a child’s youth.
“The big haircut will happen on Friday, October 5, just after Izzy’s fifth birthday,” Daniel continued.
“She has set up a donation page on Hair with Heart and has set a goal to raise $2000 before she gets her hair cut.
“We are absolutely over the moon at Izzy’s strength and generosity, the whole family is so proud of her commitment to helping other children.”
Since putting her donation page together, Izzy has already raised $688 and is well on the way to achieving her goal.
“It would be great for the community to know about what Izzy is doing and get behind her, we are just so proud,” Daniel added.
