In an upcoming demonstration the two will be giving at Forster Library on Saturday, August 4 participants can learn to take their health back into their own hands and leave with the know-how and a starter kit to make their own sourdough.
To wrap things up, participants also walk away with creative ideas on how to live more sustainably and avoid the single-use disposable habit.
Nutritionist and ex-Wingham High School student Lydia Irving will inspire participants to reconnect with their guts, demonstrating how to make digestible ferments, including sourdough, at home.
The root cause of many illnesses stems from the digestive system, and combating this is a key focus of the event.
Lydia will share her secrets about foods that can damage the gut and others that heal it, and how to prepare food for optimal digestion.
Chelsea Hands is a gardening enthusiast with a focus on self-sufficiency. Chelsea was the former co-ordinator of Manning Valley Community Gardens, behind the Old Courthouse in Wingham, and instrumental to bringing the gardens back into vibrant life.
Driven by a desire to minimise harm to the natural environment, Chelsea has developed a range of creative solutions for living more sustainably.
She'll demonstrate how to make your own plastic-free, reusable bees wax wraps and bread bags, an all-natural alternative for keeping food fresh, as well as how to use them and care for them.
MidCoast Council's manager of libraries, Chris Jones said he’s seen a growing interest from the community in healthier and more sustainable living practices.
"Bringing in local experts to share their knowledge and experiences is a great way to help people improve their own health, and the health of our environment,” Mr Jones said.
"The passion and expertise of both our presenters will inspire those attending to make positive changes to their daily lives."
The self sustaining skills demonstration will run from 2pm to 5pm, and participants’ $30 registration fee will include the demonstration, a healthy and delicious afternoon tea, and starter kits for making both sourdough and bees wax bags.
