Residents in Taree and nearby areas were left in the dark on two consecutive days after separate incidents resulted in black outs.

At about 4.20pm on Sunday, July 15, a bird came into contact with powerlines.
This resulted in 2023 residents in Taree and surrounding areas to lose power for more than one hour.
Just before 4pm on Monday, July 16, safety switches within Taree’s Whitbread Street zone substation detected a fault.
This incident caused about 6000 residents in Taree, Taree West, Glenthorne, Tinonee, Mondrook and Pampoolah to lose power for almost one hour.
In both instances, Essential Energy crews responded immediately, securing safety of the site and isolating the problem enabling the necessary network repairs to be undertaken.

An Essential Energy spokesperson said crews worked quickly to resolve both unplanned power interruptions.

“Essential Energy apologises for any inconvenience to customers and reminds the public to stay at least eight metres away from fallen or damaged powerlines and to call Essential Energy on 13 20 80,” the spokesperson said.
