Coolongolook residents, Debbie Baelue and husband John Startin were among those how made the trek up to the tops. For this family it’s an annual tradition that’s been upheld for the past 19 years.
But they aren’t the only one, the Barrington Tops Snow Chasers Facebook page been alive with activity has many share their photos and videos of their snow experience.
As recently as today (Thursday June 21) there are still reports of snow on the tops.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting the possibility of showers in the coming days with daytime temperatures of between 14 to 20 degrees and vernight temperatures may fall as low as 0.
Visitors to Barrington Tops should be prepared for rapidly changing extreme weather including rain, wind and sub-zero temperatures.
If you get stuck or are involved in an accident, help may be several hours away. Always pack additional warm clothing and extra food and water and always tell someone where you are going and when you’ll be back.
NSW Police may close the road at any time to ensure visitor safety. This may prevent access to snow covered areas and result in visitors having to turn back after long periods of travel. Check road closures and conditions before you leave Gloucester or Scone.

Be prepared:
Leave the two-wheel-drive at home - four-wheel-drives are best suited for driving in snow and ice conditions
Check weather and road conditions before you leave home and again before you leave Scone or Gloucester
Leave plenty of time for the return trip in daylight hours: travel time is up to 1.5 hours from Gloucester or Scone
Pack additional warm clothing and extra food and water
Tell someone where you’re going and when you’ll be back.
Annual winter closure of four-wheel drive trails
Four-wheel drive trails on Barrington Tops will be closed to all vehicles from June 1 until October 1 for annual seasonal closure.
The closed trails are:
- Barrington trail (south and central)
- Paddys Ridge trail
- Butchers Swamp trail
- Bullock Brush trail
- Tugalow trail
- Thunderbolts trail
Trail closures mean there is no vehicle access to the following campgrounds during this period:
- Little Murray
- Junction Pools
- Gummi Falls
