At Old Bar Community Preschool a dedicated team of parents, staff and community members, have been busy organising events and learning activities throughout 2018 to help the children of the centre learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
The group aim to build awareness and understanding for children and families around indigenous culture and develop strong communities.
Students have already experienced dot painting art with the talented Rex Winston, clay work with Angie Fernance and basket weaving with Pam Saunders.
The children looking forward to performances from the Chatham High School dancers. The first of these was held on June 15, and second is scheduled for June 27.
Learning this term will culminate with the preschool’s early NAIDOC Week celebration on Wednesday, June 27.
The preschool is inviting the community to attend the school from noon to join in the celebration.
The party starts with a barbecue picnic lunch and will be followed by cultural experiences including dancers, art, weaving, bush tucker and displays of the children’s art including dot painting, clay work and weaving from visiting artists.
Preschool director, Merrilyn McLoughlin said the school community is excited to share this afternoon with local EIders and the wider community.
