The commissioner was in Taree on Thursday, June 14 to farewell Mr Snowden, who died earlier this month.
Commissioner Fitzsimmons presented Bill’s wife Shirley with a RFS commemorative flag at the funeral.
Commissioner Fitzsimmons wrote on Facebook that Mr Snowden had made a positive impact on the Tinonee community.
“Bill was widely respected and admired by all who knew him and he will be dearly missed by us all,” Commissioner Fitzsimmons wrote.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Shirley, her family and all those that loved Bill.”
Mr Snowden was awarded an Australian Fire Service Medal in 2016 for his 46 years of service to the RFS.
From 1986 to 2015, Mr Snowden was the group officer of Tinonee, Burrell Creek, Krambach, Firefly and Mount George brigades.
