2018 Wingham Beef Week program

The 31st Annual Wingham Beef Week will be held from May 14-18 at Wingham Showground.

More than 30 schools from around NSW are expected to take part in the 2018 event, giving hundreds of children the opportunity to showcase their cattle and learn new skills.

Wingham Beef Week is a week-long festival based on all facets of the beef industry giving students, juniors and producers a rare opportunity to participate in a range of competitions.

“If you are a beef producer, a junior beef cattle enthusiasts, a school student studying agriculture, a hobby farmer or maybe considering becoming involved in the industry, then you won’t want to miss this unique event,” said Wingham Beef Week’s vice president Denis McKinnon.

The week kicks off at Wingham High School for the Junior Field Day on Monday, May 14.

The field day is an opportunity for Wingham High School Ag students to introduce local primary aged children to the animals and processes of the school farm.

This year they’ll also get to take part in MLA’s Paddock to Plate Story.

Meat and Livestock Australia’s (MLA) virtual reality Paddock to Plate Story is taking to the road on a tour of schools and local communities along the East Coast of NSW and Queensland on the way to Beef Australia 2018 in Rockhampton.

The bus will be at the Wingham High School Junior Field day from 9am to 2pm and then on Isabella Street near Bent on Food, Wingham from 3pm to 5pm.

Free Competitors Barbecue: 5.30pm at Wingham Showground

Tuesday, May 15

UNE Education morning: 8am - noon at Wingham Showground

Herdsperson competition begins: 9am at Wingham Showground

Mandatory exhibitors/teachers meeting: noon – 1pm

Junior and Open Judging Competition: 1pm at Wingham Showground

MSA Unled competition: Cattle to be delivered direct to Wingham Beef Exports between 6am and 6pm.

Wednesday, May 16 

Herdsperson Competition continues : 8am at Wingham Showground

Beef Appreciation Competition begins (live section): 8am - 10am at Wingham Showground

Judging of MSA Unled Hoof section: 8am – 10am at Wingham Beef Exports

Hobbs Encouragement Award interviews: 9am - 10am at Wingham Showground

Junior and Open Parading Competition: 10am onwards at Wingham Showground

Weighing and tagging of led animals: 2pm at Wingham Showground

Exhibitors will be provided with a ‘bump in’ time for the weighing and tagging of their animals. 

Thursday, May 17 

MSA Unled Carcase viewing: 7am - 7.30am at Wingham Beef Exports

Herdsperson Competition continues: 8am at Wingham Showground

Judging of Led Hoof Section: 8am at Wingham Showground

Live auction: 11am at Wingham Showground

Beef Appreciation Competition continues (ICMJ meat judging section): 1pm at Wingham Beef Exports

Roving bus trip - to be confirmed

Junior Heifer Classes: 1pm at Wingham Showground

MSA Unled Presentation: 5pm at Wingham Showground. Everyone is welcome. 

MSA Producers Barbecue: 6pm at Wingham Showground

Friday, May 18 

Led section carcase viewing: 8am - 10am at Wingham Beef Exports

Presentations: 11am at Wingham Showground. 

The presentation starting time will depend on when the results are received and may start earlier than scheduled.
