The Manning River mullet will continue to run for a few weeks and there will be other schools of fish coming up the coast from rivers and lakes. When the mullet run then the big predators – sharks and mulloway – will be waiting in the river, at Crowdy Head and Diamond Head to ambush the fish. There have not been any reports of mulloway caught in the last few days, but they will turn up when the mullet start to move up and down the wall and prepare for running.
Bream and flathead catches have been good from the wall and in the backwater at Harrington, however, flathead catches are better further upsteam.
Whiting are still on the bite from the sand spit in the mouth of the river. Drummer are being caught from the rocks at Crowdy Head while tailor are taking lures and bait on Harrington and Crowdy beaches.
Outside anglers are boating snapper, trag, pearl perch and flathead while mac tuna are taking trolled lures.
