Among guests were two of the very first members who founded the club in 1967: the charter president, Frank Hooke, and Denver Webb, both of whom now live in Gloucester.
Taree Toastmasters president Michael Hollingworth was presented by the organisation’s District 90 Director, Shirley Childs, with a plaque to celebrate the milestone.
The club was also congratulated by David Fisher, Australia’s member on the International Toastmasters board of directors, who came from Sydney with his wife Margrit.
MC for the evening was Colin Steber, a former president of Taree Toastmasters and now Toastmasters’ Division Director responsible for 17 clubs.
Philip Thornton, a Taree club member for more than 25 years and currently its longest standing member, interviewed former members about their experiences as Toastmasters.
Taree Toastmasters, which educates members in public speaking, meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, at Club Taree at 7.30 pm. Visitors are welcome. Contact president Michael Hollingworth, 0409 558 199, or division director Colin Steber, 0427 220 888.
