The team, Shane Perrim and Brian Drysdale, was put through their paces in 10 driving sections, one static and verification.
Shane made his driving debut this year following six years in the navigator’s seat for Brian.
He was pleased with his performance and conceded the courses proved a challenge.
He said the task was made more difficlut as his vehicle had front wheel steering as opposed to four-wheel steering utilised by the top teams in the competition.
Shane added he was unable to view and assess his main competition.
“I didn’t really get to see many of the others because there’s 12 different tracks all over the place,” Shane said.
He picked the Terrain Tamer Heartbreak Ridge and Devil’s Marbles courses as the best to compete on.
Shane was unsure if the duo would return to the event next year. They weren’t the only side from the Manning Great Lakes that competed.
Team D21 Navara (Taree’s Luke and Shane Carmichael), Black Dog (Krambach’s Warren Lewis and Richard Coneybeare), Ditchfield (Glenthorne’s Dan McCarthy and John Waugh) and Just Crawlin (Taree’s Owen Griffis and Rod Kirk) also tackled the grueling challenge.
The teams were unable to improve on last year’s efforts, with Team D21 Navara the best finishers in 38th.
Black Dog was two places behind, with B & S Racing in 43rd, Ditchfield in 45th and Just Crawlin’ in 47th.
All crews are part of the Manning Great Lakes 4 x 4 Club.
Victorian team, Just Customs (Michael Justice and Tim Nolan) won the event for the third consecutive year in emphatic fashion, ahead of Team Redzook (Medowie’s Tim Scutt and Luke Schmahl).
Almost 60 competitors took part in the challenge, which emanated from the Hunter Valley.
The challenge began in 2001 and tests competitors on their ability to drive on all terrain type courses such as rocks and mud.
