The 74-year-old Anna retired in 2006, after spending her working life as a registered nurse working in a number of areas including pathology. Anna also organised home care for patients who wished to remain living independently.
After moving to Ingenia Gardens Taree two and a half years ago, she has been an integral part of the village community which led to her village manager Amanda Howton nominating her for the local senior’s award.
Anna has been awarded a 2018 NSW Seniors Local Achievement Award, presented by Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead on Tuesday, March 27.
Despite battling some health issues of her own, Anna’s ‘can do’ attitude keeps her on her feet and active every day.
According to Amanda, “Anna Sinclair personifies the word ‘community’, she lives in it and she creates it; she has been and still is a carer in every sense of the word and a true asset to our community.”
Anna is incredibly selfless and continuously makes herself available to help her fellow residents with transport to doctor appointments, shopping centres and the local train stations.
In her role as social club president, Anna conducts the meetings and organises outings, entertainment and a monthly barbecue for the residents. When community lunches are held, Anna voluntarily sets up the tables, decorates the room, serves the punch and meals, and clears the plates. She has recently transformed an area of the village garden as a special off-leash area for the residents’ dogs.
Anna’s nickname, Florence Nightingale, is a testament to the fact that you will always see Anna doing her rounds to check on the health and welfare of residents who may be feeling poorly or need a hand to get a load of washing done.
