Now, the 19 year old is demanding action, with the support of the Scribblers writing group,15 members of which have signed his letter of protest in support of the change he is seeking.
“I am writing to complain about the state of the roads in the Manning Valley from the perspective of a person with a disability,” Jack’s letter read.
“I am a 19 year old man in a wheelchair. To go anywhere I need to be strapped into my wheelchair then strapped into the back of a van.
“The majority of roads in this town and district are rough and bumpy. For me these roads are torturous to drive on.
“With no time to prepare myself I’m being chucked from pillar to post when going through potholes and over bumps.
“Some examples of horrific road surfaces are the railway crossing into Macquarie Street, through the roundabout and past Manning Mall towards Taree High School.
“I travel this road most days. Another is Victoria Street near the Blue Cross Church. There are many more, too numerous to mention.
“I can only hope council will do as it says in its January 2018 newsletter that reads, “Roads are a top priority,” when they are wasting time in other areas, for example, the new council chambers at the former Masters site.”
