The Manning River was abuzz with excitement on Saturday, February 24 as David Warby trialed his jet boat Spirit 2.

The trial was in preparation for a world water speed record attempt, which is currently held by his father Ken.
David said the trial was necessary before having a tilt at the record later this year.
“We’ve made some modifications to the engine and to the hull of the boat,” he said.
“It’s enough to give us good feedback on what’s going on.”
David said Taree made an ideal trial location as it is not far from his native Newcastle.
The Manning River course was considerably smaller than what he will encounter in the world record challenge.
“We run on a 10 kilometre course down in Blowering Dam (near Tumut) and up here’s about one and a half to two kilometres,” David said.
