Two new displays will be created. The first is a ‘timeline’ display showing major world conflicts. The display will be made up of photographs, text, and also artefacts from the museum’s collection, some of which are new and have been assessed as having very high historical significance.
The Manning Valley Historical Society plan to have this first stage finished in preparation for Anzac Day commemorations in 2018.
The second display will extend an existing display cabinet into an unused space, and will house a permanent memorial that pays homage to all who served.
This display is set to be ready by November for Armistice Day, also known as Remembrance Day, on November 11, 2018.
“We applied for a grant and we’re very happy to announce that we have received the grant,” Manning Valley Historical Society president, Terry Tournoff said.
“Naturally the society of the Museum is fully self-funded, non-profit and independent and so grants play a very big role in the job we do in preserving the history and culture of the Manning Valley, the community and its residents.
“This grant will be put towards refurbishing our war cabinet area as part of the museum’s contribution to the commemorations for the Centenary of the First World War,” Mr Tournoff said.
