It is with great sadness I report the passing of one of the stalwarts of our village. We lost Trevor Poulton last week after many years of failing health. He was one of the hardest workers the town has ever had. Not only did he work hard at his job, he put in many years of unpaid work for the good of the community. He and his wife Barbara attended every function, be it a working bee, a Red Cross event, dance, school function, or whatever.

I first met Trevor and Barbara at the card nights the hall used to have ever week, where Trevor always enjoyed the game, the friendship of the players, and showed his great sense of humour.
We both spent many years working on the hall committee. He used to travel out for meetings after he moved to Wingham. The pair still attended every town event while their health allowed. Trevor continued to do so after Barbara passed away. He retired as committee treasurer, when the hall transferred to the Lands Department, after many years of exact book keeping, but still came to local events until he was too ill.
In Wingham, he played euchre and 500 with a new group and at the RSL, always for the challenge of the games he loved.
His other great loves were his family, who grew up a credit to his and Barbara’s parenting skills; tapestry, which he did extremely well; and repairing old furniture. He repaired an old table for me, which still has pride of place in my lounge room.
His friends will miss him and think of him as we drive along Nowendoc Road, where he drove his cattle truck, worked at the hall, and lived just out of town.
Vale Trevor, mentor and friend. Your work ethic, kindness, help and esteemed friendship won’t be forgotten. Rest in peace old friend.
Last weekend the RFS pagers delivered a warning that fire danger for Monday was high. Please, even if you have a permit, check the fire risk with Fire Com in town before you burn off. There is a lot of dry fuel on the ground. Ensure the fire perimeter is safe so your burn won’t spread. Remain with the fire until it is completely out and remember, if it gets onto a neighbour’s property you are responsible for any damage. Note to Mount George members, the AGM is at 7.30pm, May 29, at the fire shed.
Last Friday, as I drove along Nowendoc Road, through the wooded area, a small branch hit my car’s bonnet. There was no damage, but I dread to think what might have happened if it had come down end first. Many trees have dead and low branches hanging over the road. There are even some completely dead trees which are even more of a hazard. Please keep an eye out for falling debris on windy days.
