Mr Goodwin said Taree will definitely apply to host the event in 2019. He is confident that following the success of last weekend’s titles Taree will be well placed to be the venue next year and possibly beyond.
A total of 58 teams in 10 divisions from under 10s through to under 18s were involved in the two day championships. Associations from Sydney to Ballina were involved, although those out of the Northern Eagles Region couldn’t play for the overall championship.
Outside associations included Singleton, Newcastle, Parramatta and Peninsula from the Central Coast.
The program was run by Northern Eagles and NSW Touch officials.
“It ran like clockwork,’’ Mr Goodwin said.
He said weather conditions were reasonable.
“It was hot, but not unbearable,’’ he said.
“The fields were in good order, they were a bit dusty in parts, but that’s to be expected with the weather we’ve been having.’’
Mr Goodwin said the feedback he has received from the Northern Eagles and NSW Touch has been positive.
“I think we’re a really good chance of getting the championships back here. We’ll be putting our hands up to host it again for sure.’’
Outside associations used to championships as preparation for the State Junior Cup to be played at Port Macquarie from February 16 to 18. Taree Touch previously ran a gala at this time of year to work towards the State Junior Cup. Taree will again send 10 teams to cup while the sides will also take part in the Hunter Hornets Championship at Nelson Bay on February 3 and 4.
This will be the last year the State Cup will be played in its current format. From 2019 the event will split into northern and southern sections.
Selectors will name Northern Eagles teams for the State Regional Championships after the State Junior Cup in the under 14, 16 and 18 divisions. Mr Goodwin expects Taree to have a strong representation in all grades following the association’s domination of the Eagles championships.
