About 1pm on Saturday, January 20 a 28 year old Taree woman entered the bakery where she placed an order for goods.
Police say when the shop assistant's back was turned she reached onto the counter and removed the Can Assist charity tin, placing it in a bag and she left the store.
Staff from the store realised the charity tin was missing the following morning. They reviewed their CCTV and reported the matter to Taree Police.
On Sunday evening, January 21 Taree Police attended a Taree address where they spoke with the 28 year old woman who produced the charity tin minus the donations.
She was placed under arrest and charged with the stealing offence.
She will appear in Taree Local Court in February 2018.
Can Assist is a charity that assists country people who are affected by any type of cancer.
