It has been a lost week for most anglers with strong southerly winds whipping up big seas and making outside and beach and rock fishing impossible.

The southerly winds have had an impact in the river as well. The only places fish comfortably in the river are close in near the banks on the southern side of the river. These areas are somewhat protected from the wind and waves and can provide productive fishing. I noticed a school of chopper tailor attacking a school of bait fish in the back water a couple of days ago. The tailor are coming into the river looking for these fish and the mulloway will be coming in looking for the tailor.
A live bait floated from the wall above the gantry in flat water should provoke an attack from the mulloway.
Bream, whiting and flathead are still around and will be back on the bite when the wind eases. It will take a couple of days for the seas to abate and let the anglers target tailor on the beaches. The same can be said about the outside anglers waiting for the seas to calm.
