Zone 11 has been given the go-ahead from Bowls NSW to start next year’s pennant season on Saturday, March 3.
The zone will run the pennant grades two to seven, with the No 1s under the control of the State match committee. Tuncurry Beach will be the only Zone 11 club in the No 1s.
Zone secretary Bruce Elliott said some pennant competitions in the State won’t get underway until April 28 when the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast have finished.
“The Commonwealth Games doesn’t affect us so I can’t see why we have to wait until its over to start our pennants,’’ Mr Elliott said.
“I would imagine there would be people from our zone involved with pennants who will go to watch the Commonwealth Games.
“But I would think the clubs will be able to cover for them.’’
He said the 44 teams will contest next year’s pennants, which is on par with the 2017 number.
At one stage it looked as though there would be a shortfall, but this didn’t eventuate.
