“The program starts at 6.30pm but you really need to get there early to claim your space,” said Amanda Tate from LJ Hooker. “Food will be available from 5.30pm.”
River Street, from the MidCoast Council Taree administration building along to Martin Bridge, will be closed from 5.30pm. “No cars are to be parked in that area due to the fireworks.”
Jeremy Miller and Jeremy Thornton will again host the entertainment program, which will see lots of performances by Manning Valley talent. A number of high schools are involved as well as the Gymaroos, dancers and singers.
The music this year is organised by Leanne Ralston, a music teacher at Taree High School who has volunteered her time.
“There will be a live band and a lot of rock’n’roll numbers,” said Amanda.
Mick Saunders will do the welcome to country and another special contribution.
Children will have a chance to catch up with Mr Hooker Bear and it is expected Santa will make a visit.
Food, activities and goodies include face painting, a sausage sizzle, fairy floss, coffee, ice cream, glowsticks, candles and flashing wands.
A big screen will be used to display words for the carols. You can also find the words in the carols section of the LJ Hooker App that you can download.
The theme for the festivities is Peace. “It’s about bringing the meaning to the community about Christmas,” said Amanda.
“The community really pulls together; there has been bread donated and sausages, soap and toilets, and Saxby’s have donated soft drinks.”
All proceeds raised go back into funding the event.
The festivities will close at 9pm with a display by Kaboom Fireworks.
In conjunction with Carols in the Park, a colouring-in competition has been running for children. A Snapchat filter has also been created for the event and a competition is running for the most creative use of it.
