He is buried at Bobadah in the central west region of NSW.
“Alex ‘Alexander’ and Clara Smith of Lansdowne, Manning River were his parents, according to what is recorded on the headstone,’’ Trevor reports.
“I know it is a very difficult name to track, but I was hoping that there may be decedents from his family still in the area who may be able to assist.
“We do know he was a teacher here although we don’t know how he died. In that period measles and chicken pox were really bad in this area.’’
Trevor explained that the Bobadah hall committee has just been given a plaque in dedication of Bobadah cemetery and it features Herbert’s name.
“We don’t want to see his memory forgotten,’’ Trevor said.
He can be contacted on phone 0478 360 482 or trevor_whitney@bigpond.com.
