This is the journey that the Sinfonia Mid North Coast orchestra, Taree’s Kantabile Chamber Choir and Forster’s Company of Voices will transport you across Australia through soundscapes in their end of year series of concerts titled Australian Landscapes.
The first half of the program will solely be performed by the orchestra, conducted by Heidi Lambert, Iain Pole and guest conductor, John Kellaway – one of Sinfonia’s patrons, former head of Newcastle Conservatorium and head of brass at Central Coast Conservatorium.
The concert is unique in that it will see the premier of two pieces written by members of Sinfonia.
Assistant conductor Iain Pole has composed Gestalt, a tribute to the orchestra’s late violin/viola player and inaugural member, Shirley Smith, who sadly passed away suddenly last year.
Miguel Guthridge, this year’s James Hannah-Sinfonia Scholarship holder, has composed Luttuoso. Miguel will perform this piece himself on cello with the orchestra.
The combined Kantabile and Company of Voices choir will be accompanied by Sinfonia in the second half of the program. A few Australian favourites might tempt you to sing along, while five uniquely Australian Christmas carols will have you imagining brolgas, bellbirds and boobooks, and wild dogs and drovers.
The Australian Landscapes concerts are on at:
- Nabiac Showground Hall, 2pm, Sunday November 19
- Laurieton School of Arts, 2pm, Saturday, November 25
- St John’s Anglican Church, 2pm, Sunday November 26
