Another major blackspot for mobile phone coverage has been eliminated thanks to the federal government’s Mobile Blackspots Program. Through the week I joined members of the Comboyne community and Telstra representatives as the 200th new Telstra base station kicked into action.
The base station delivers Telstra’s 3G and state of the art 4GX mobile data services for the first time, allowing the community to keep in contact with family and friends and run their businesses more effectively.
The Comboyne project was funded under round three as will Mount Seaview for which carriers are being invited to tender.
CWA AGM
Empowering country women, community projects and developing policies and strategies to improve country Australia, were among the topics discussed at the Country Women’s Association – Mid-North Coast Group’s AGM in Kendall. I was delighted to hear of the many community issues local members have become involved in. As national CWA president Dorothy Coombe said, the CWA is much more than morning tea, scones and craft, it is an organisation that empowers country women through the projects at both the grassroots and national level aimed at making a positive difference in their communities.
Local sport champions
Congratulations to locals Chloe Slade, Molly Fraser, Fletcher Murray and Bayden Smith, who will each receive grants of $500 under the Australian Institute of Sport’s Local Sporting Champions program. The program provides financial assistance to successful applicants aged between 12 and 18 years when competing, coaching or umpiring/refereeing at an official national School Sport Championships, or Australian Sports Commission recognised state, national or international sporting championships, for travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment. Our local champions have spent a great deal of time trying to better themselves through years of hard work, training and dedication and I am delighted more locals have made it to state representative level.
