As the Akoostik Festival moves forward an ongoing commitment of the committee is of being waste conscious.
This year Akoostik organisers are joining the war on waste, supported by JR Richards and Sons.
Special bins will be provided for food waste, with the waste going to the Islands in the Stream commercial worm farm at Oxley Island.
“No one wants to be part of an event that leaves a scar on the environment or creates a massive amount of waste for landfill,” said event coordinator Donna Ballard.
“This year we are really focusing on this and working closely with recyclers, ensuring we recycle as much of our waste into other areas.”
Seeking to further reduce waste, collapsible refillable water bottles will be on sale, with a water-filling station provided.
The Wingham Showground Tea Rooms will be a must visit with Wingham High School providing a recycled art exhibition.
Students have enthusiastically taken on the Akoostik Festival theme of ‘war on waste’.
Using their artistic talents they have started work on a giant macramé and a Chihuly-inspired candelabra to be completed in the tea rooms.
These works will be continued on by any festival goers wanting to add their talents or learn a new skill.
