In its 52nd year in Taree the competition continues to find young women living in regional areas who would like to go on a journey of personal development.
Taree Showgirl co-ordinator Val Weller said any young woman aged between 18 to 25 can enter the competition.
“It’s the perfect opportunity to improve your speaking and overall presentation skills,” Val said.
Val said each contestant submits an application form, attends an afternoon tea and sits an interview with a panel of judges.
“Applications and interviews are a part of life, so this is a great environment to practise in.”
The winner of the local level of the competition will attend zone in Coffs Harbour in early 2017.
If successful at zone level the showgirl will attend the Sydney Royal Easter Show for a week of official duties as part of The Land Sydney Showgirl competition.
Taree Showgirl for 2015 Laura Polson said the role allowed her to connect with the community and to grow as a person through the different stages of the competition.
“As part of my prize I attended a workshop weekend with former Miss World runner up Karen Pini,” Laura said.
“Karen helped me improve my confidence and was great support leading up to the zone weekend.
“I also got to meet a lot of inspiring young women who let me know about other leadership opportunities.
“I really encourage others to enter the competition, it’s such a good experience.”
To enter the competition contact Val Weller on 6554 1240.
Taree Show will be held from October 6 to 8.
