Melbourne artist Dagmar Cyrulla, winner of the 2017 Manning Art Prize: Naked and Nude, visited the Manning for the first time to give a floor talk at the Manning Regional Art Gallery.
Acting art gallery director Rachel Piercy said the talk was a great success, with more than 35 people in attendance.
“That is great for an event which was organised at short notice.” said Rachel.
“We had a group come from Sydney specially to see the exhibition, and they were pleasantly surprised that their visit coincided with Dagmar’s talk.”
Dagmar spoke of her working practice, the development of work towards a recent solo exhibition in Victoria, and her interest in colour theory as part of her honours study at university.
The event was an intimate way to get to know the artist, who also mentioned the work of her fellow contemporaries in the exhibition such as Peter Churcher, Zai Kuang and Prudence Flint.
This was the third time Dagmar has entered the Manning Art Prize Naked and Nude competition and she felt very privileged to have won when she saw the standard of work in this year’s finalist exhibition at the gallery.
Dagmar, who had never been to the area, looks forward to future possibilities of workshops with the artistic community and possibility of an exhibition at the gallery in 2020.
