Manning Great Lakes Community Health Action Group is maintaining momentum in its campaign to ensure Manning Hospital remains an ongoing redevelopment priority for Hunter New England Health Local Health District (HNELHD).
The group is driving public support for its petition that calls on the State government to fund the whole hospital redevelopment project at chemists and medical centres throughout the Mid Coast region. Its members also recently pressed home numerous issues to NSW Parliamentary Secretary for Regional and Rural Health and Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams.

Ms Williams took part in a meeting in Taree on August 28 with the action group, the Board Chair of HNELHD and senior executives.
Group president Alan Tickle said the meeting was “very positive”, and high on its agenda was the hospital redevelopment proposals and the status of the clinical services plan. He said the current and future redevelopment of Manning Hospital was a priority of HNELHD, and added it was listed on their strategic asset plan for consideration by NSW Health.
“Until NSW Health consider this, it seems that any notion of funding allocation for the next stage of the re-development plan is premature.” Mr Tickle said.
“It was agreed by HNELHD and the action group that Manning Hospital is a high priority for the region. It was a fruitful meeting and I am sure HNELHD left with a clear understanding that our group is all about a positive outcome with a commitment to work collaboratively with HNELHD,” Mr Tickle said
“There was acknowledgment that some key personnel appointments over the past 12 months had made a significant difference however, there are still some important positions to fill.
“It was agreed at the meeting that revitalised infrastructure with some further key personnel appointments enabling training accreditation would really set the hospital on a roll and make the task of recruitment less challenging.”
