The AH and P Association has been talking about the idea for 10 years and this year, it has finally come to fruition.
Being the Agricultural, Horticultural and Pastoral Association, the committee believed it was only fitting to introduce a new event that celebrates the farming aspect of the community.
“Tractors are central to the Gloucester economy,” committee member Stuart Redman said.
And this event provides an opportunity for people to show off their tractors.
“We’ve got the only tractor pull sled in New South Wales,” Stuart said.
And news is spreading quickly, with entries already pouring in.
There are 14 categories based on the horsepower of the tractor entered.
Each tractor will be hooked up to the shed, which will be weighted with concrete blocks according to the horsepower.
As the rear wheels of the sled move, the weighted table at the back is pulled forward, increasing the downward force on the sled.
The goal is to pull the sled as far as possible on the 55 metre track, until the tractor losses traction.
The bigger the tractor, the more weight added.
Individual heats will be run throughout Saturday, April 1, with the finals taking place in the main show ring from 7pm.
“The hope is to attract a whole new crowd of people to the show,” Stuart said.
“It’s a small beginning, with hopes to expand the show into the future.”
The committee has lots of ideas for ways to bring new entertainment to the Gloucester region and this is just the beginning.
Gloucester Show will still be providing the regular events it’s known for, like the Demolition Derby and the fireworks show.
“The hillside entertainment is expected to be bigger and better than last year.”
Gloucester Show is on at the Gloucester Showground on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1.
