Club singles
The entertainment last Sunday morning on the green was provided by the game between Stan Burnell-Jones and Hunter Payton. Their encounter lasted 30 minutes after all other games were concluded, mainly due to Stan and his tactics to get on top of Hunter, which he eventually achieved after 38 ends. Hunter got away to a good lead of eight shots early, however Stan got back to take the lead at the halfway mark only to lose the momentum by being down by five shots on the 33 end. Stan then held the mat and continually altered playing distance and was rewarded by taking the final ends and the match 31-29.

Peter Tindall came up against the old campaigner Col Hinton with the result eventually going to Col 33-25. Peter played well to get within a shot on the 28th end but Col then took out all but one of the remaining six ends to go into the next round.
Snow Trenchard progresses to the next round by defeating Mick Hollebone by 32-24 after 30 ends. Mick did lead on a couple of occasions throughout the game but Snow deserved the victory by winning the majority of the ends.
Daniel Leadbeater came up against Dallas Hammond and the game could have gone either way until the 20th end when a shot separated the players. It was then that Daniel took off and eventually won 31-18.
Col Watson played Robert Hardy with Col taking a commanding 16 shot lead after 15 ends of play. Bob became more competitive for the remainder of the game and they shared the ends with the final result going to Col 33-19.
Sunday morning the remainder of the first round games are to be played.
Saturday pennant practice
Manning Point were to visit but did not turn up so a number of teams of intending players were arranged with some worthwhile practice. The games organisers drew from the eight cards to decide who took home the big money and that was the team of Hunter Payton, Dennis Rothe, Tim Richardson and Graeme Mansfield. They did defeat Stan Burnell-Jones, Ben Wolters, Snow Trenchard and Mick Hollebone by a shot.
Dallas Hammond, Jay Nicholson, Daniel Leadbeater and John Black had a comfortable 19-7 win over Greg Bartlett, Ian Furner, Peter Tindall and Robert Allen.
Steve Matheson, Col Watson, Chris Kane and Howie Snelson were leading by six shots early in the game against Michael Clarke, Jim Gillogly, Peter Kriss and David O’Donnell, but could not cope with the pressure applied by Michael and his crew; the final score being 19-11 in favour of Michael’s team.
Graeme Ireland, Kev Coles and Paul Swan showed no mercy to their opposition - Bob Hardy, Pat Payton and Allan Cox, with the final score favouring Graeme’s team 17-2.
