Santa arrived with sweets for all present and in addition, there were many lucky door prizes. A very enjoyable cold buffet was served by club staff, followed by dessert.
Bazaar spirits dampened
Light rain and relatively cold conditions impacted on the second annual Old Bar Christmas Bazaar. This didn't seem to deter stallholders who set up under the shop awnings, but it did keep the crowds away.
The Oxley Island Pony Club did a brisk trade with the sausage sizzle and when Surfin' Santa arrived in the fire truck, children converged from everywhere, looking for presents and a photo opportunity on Santa's knee.
The Christmas bazaar is the major event organised by the Old Bar and Manning Point Chamber of Commerce. It should be remembered that it also commenced the Old Bar Beach Festival some years ago but that is now run by a separate committee and emanating from that is the annual Garage Sales R Us and the Ocean Rhythms Music Festival. So it can be seen that the Chamber of Commerce has runs on the board as far as supporting business and the community.
CTC thanks volunteers
The Old Bar Beach Community Technology Centre (CTC) hosted a small afternoon tea for volunteers and some wives last Saturday. Lurayia's Restaurant, adjacent to the CTC, was the venue.
The CTC has 22 volunteers which keep the centre open five and a half days a week. It is only closed on Sundays and public holidays. This little afternoon tea was a small thank you for the time, commitment and effort put in by these people.
No markets this Sunday
As the fourth Sunday in December is Christmas Day, there will be no Old Bar markets this month. The next markets will be January 22.
