But with it being a chance to raise funds for regional mental health support, the decision became a whole lot easier.
The 22-year-old, is a fourth year veterinary science student at James Cook University, and as the tradition stands, each year vet students shoot a nude calendar for a good cause.
This year they chose the mental health focused Tie Up the Black Dog Foundation. Money raised will go towards their graduation ball, with ten per cent towards the foundation.
“Depression and mental illness is something that can affect anyone, regardless of a person’s age, gender, occupation or geographic location,” Hannah said.
“It has a devastating effects on the lives of individuals, their families and friends.
“Unfortunately in the 21st Century, the suicide rates in remote and rural Australia are significantly higher than that of the country’s urban areas, which I believe translates as a lack of understanding and awareness of those who suffer mental health issues.
“It is important to raise awareness of the struggles of those who live in remote rural areas as they often feel isolated and lack the courage to take action.
“It is also something that really resonates with us as vet students. Heading into a career that has one of the highest suicide rates, I believe it is important to stay mindful of these conditions. In supporting this wonder cause, we aim to debunk the stigma and educate people that there is support out there for everyone; our colleagues, clients and local communities.”
Hannah said shooting the calendar made her year of fellow vet students, a whole lot closer.
“We were all feeling incredibly apprehensive about it, however, by the end of the day were pretty comfortable with each other,” Hannah said.
“We are a very supportive year and to say that we have become even closer, is definitely an understatement.
“I am sure that every student will look back at their university years with this event being one of the most memorable.”
Upon finishing her degree, Hannah would like to work in a mixed practice (working with both small and large animals). She is also interested in working overseas.
