“We wanted to do something different,” explained Rotary past president Dave Sullings.
“There’s been a big influx of newcomers and we wanted to give the new residents the opportunity to meet some of the longer term residents of the area.”
Local community groups have been invited and so far the Wherrol Flat Hall Committee, local fire brigade, Landcare and locals clubs including the tennis and fishing club are all booked in ready to talk to the special guests.
The idea was born when current Wingham Rotary president Peter Fotheringham suggested the club take meetings out into the community.
“Everybody notices new people moving into town but they don’t always get the chance to meet them,” said Dave.
The two course dinner will be held at Wherrol Flat Hall on Saturday November 5 from 6pm. Rotary has distributed flyers to promote the event and hopes the local community will back the idea and attend.
“We’ve had a good response so far from the community and have about 20 members of Rotary confirmed also,” said Dave.
Tickets are $15 a head and available by calling Dave on 6550 7351 or 0421 073 560. RSVP by Wednesday November 2 if possible.
