Just over two years ago Amanda was a stay-at-home mum to three kids when she decided to look for a new hobby.
She loved candles and after lots of research decided to experiment with soy wax as it is a natural source with no toxins and is not harmful to the environment.
It wasn’t long before friends and family were asking her to make candles and melts for them and now, just two years later, the business is growing and thriving.
The business is a family affair with Amanda’s husband helping to make and market the candles, and their children helping with labelling and packaging.
As well as having a great local customer base, orders come in from as far as North Queensland and Victoria, along with excellent customer feedback.
Amanda finds that word of mouth is one of the best forms of publicity for her product.
“I am very excited to be part of Craftathon this year and to showcase my candles and meet some more amazing people,” said Amanda.
Craftathon is on at Club Taree on November 19 and 20.
The auditorium will be full of exhibitors and there will be lots of on site demonstrations and a big range of craft supplies on offer.
Among them are Trevor Short, Lawrence Sinclair and Trevor Manners who are three mates from Forster-Tuncurry with something in common.
They all belong to the Forster Wood Gallery Group and they all have a passion for creating beautiful things from wood, which will be on display.
A super sewing machine raffle, valued at over $1000, and a large craft hamper will be drawn at the end of each day.
With ongoing demonstrations there is something new to learn around every corner and children’s craft workshops on both days will keep the kids happy.
Entry $5 (children under 12 free with an adult) 10am to 4pm on Saturday, and 10am to 3pm on Sunday.
