Somewhere between 450 and 500 people filled the town green and yet the night truly was a feel good family night.
There were no issues, apart from a broken down popcorn machine, no yahoos, no bad behaviours. I’m sure the families felt safe and free to let the kids run around.
The outdoor cinema technician was impressed, he said he never gets crowds like this in Sydney and certainly not as peaceful.
The reports we got and thanks yous proved that most people felt the same way.
At one point, I looked over the park with all the families and thought ‘Wow, this is what a country community is all about’, Wingham hasn’t lost it.
Wingham Rotary enjoyed the night and made a market profit that will go back to the community in some way. Thanks also to Mr Whippy and The Hooting Owl Coffee Van and to all the people who got behind the idea.
Facebook was running hot, so the girls tell me, and all are keen to do it again next year.
Thanks also to the local SES and Matt Paulson and Paulson Security, who volunteered their services, something you have to have for events on council property.
These sort of things make us proud to be a part of the Wingham community and yes we will do it again.
