This follows incidents in the Bushland and Chatham areas where good Samaritans have had their wallets stolen from their motor vehicles by people they have given lifts to.
Senior Constable Ray Slade, Crime Prevention Officer Manning-Great Lakes LAC, said, “People need to keep their personal items, especially wallets and handbags, secure whilst they are in their motor vehicles.”
“Like hitch hiking, police do not encourage giving lifts in their cars to people that they do not know,” he said.
“This is when these stealing incidents have occurred. We all have good in us, but we have to be fully aware of what people may do while they are in our car.”
