The long running local event is all about showcasing post-school options for years 10, 11 and 12 students from around the area, who are otherwise isolated from universities and colleges.
The annual event is put together by the Lower North Coast Careers Advisers Association and the NSW Department of Education and Communities.
It’s the perfect ‘one-stop shop’ for students to discuss as many post-school tertiary and employment options as possible, from all the major universities, to colleges, police and defence representatives, jobs services and more. “We’re fully booked again this year,” explained event coordinator Glen Bowman.
“We’re at the stage where we unfortunately have to turn exhibitors away, but this means that we are able to offer a wide range of information that will cater for everyone, whether they’re looking to leave school in year 10 or go on to years of study at university.”
As the event is largely targeted at year 12 students it coincides with the opening of university applications with the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).
The day is organised by a team of local careers advisers from the Taree and Great Lakes area and each year approximately 1000 students from all of the region’s schools have the opportunity to attend free of charge.
The expo offers something of interest for each student, regardless of their future aspirations. More than 60 exhibitors will be in attendance on the day, including employer groups, specialist trainers such as NSW Police and Defence, private colleges, TAFE, apprenticeship centres and universities from NSW, ACT and QLD will also be in attendance.
To make the most of this opportunity, year 12 students in particular can research course options, early entry schemes and employment prospects, as well as scholarship opportunities, on campus accommodation options and financial assistance that may be available for study in the form of youth allowance from Centrelink. Year 10 and 11 students and parents are also welcome on Friday.
